Woman Hospitalized, Police Pursuit Ends in Accident on Highway 180

FRESNO, CA (March 10, 2023) — A woman suffered serious injuries in a police chase crash on Highway 180 and Cornelia Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 6:00 a.m. Thursday. For robbery and assault reasons, police tried pulling over two teens in a vehicle. However, police found the suspects trying to flee, leading them on a chase. At some point during the chase, the vehicle reached excessive speeds. Due to a combination of traffic conditions, officers had to abandon the pursuit.

Upon entering the intersection with Highway 180, the vehicle was broadsided by an eastbound Acura driven by a woman. The woman suffered major injuries and sought care at Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. One of two teens involved in the prior robbery tried running away from the crash but police arrested the teen.

Currently, the teens remain in custody. If anyone has more information on this incident, please contact the CHP.

Driving at a high rate of speed increases the danger. If an officer tries to make a traffic stop, pull over. Leading them on a chase only leads you in harm’s way. You can cause a car accident and injuries to yourself and others.
