Woman Hospitalized in High-Speed, Single-Car Crash on Highway 99 in Fresno

FRESNO, CA (August 14, 2023) — A woman suffered major injuries in a high-speed solo-car accident on Highway 99 near Ashlan Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened around 12:14 p.m. Saturday. For possible speed-related reasons, a 25-year-old man lost control of his vehicle. Subsequently, his 2005 Hyundai Elantra veered up an embankment, struck a tree and overturned multiple times.

At some point during the incident, a 25-year-old female passenger was ejected from the car.

Minutes later, emergency personnel showed up and took the seriously injured woman to a local hospital for care. The driver and a minor in the car were also taken to a hospital for cuts and scrapes.

At this time, authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. However, if anyone can help the police with this case, please call (559) 498-STOP.

The faster you travel, the less time you have at your disposal to respond to a dangerous situation. Traveling the posted speed limit is ideal. This speed limit allows you to have control of your vehicle when emergencies arise. However, you should always pay attention and keep a sufficient amount of space from the car in front of you. Having enough road space allows for more time to avoid a crash.
