Woman Struck, Killed by Big Rig on 5 Freeway Road in Castaic

 
CASTAIC, CA (May 12, 2022) — A woman was hit and killed by a big rig on the 5 Freeway near Lake Hughes Road on Tuesday morning.
 
According to California Highway Patrol officers, the fatal pedestrian accident happened around 2:15 a.m. For unknown reasons, a woman who appeared to be 30 years old ran across the traffic lanes and into the path of an oncoming big rig. Subsequently, the semi-truck slammed into the female pedestrian in the freeway lanes, dragging her several feet before coming to a rest.
 
As a result of the impact, the victim suffered grave injuries.
 
Soon after, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead at 2:33 a.m. Officials have yet to release her name.
 
Following the crash, the 39-year-old driver of the semi-truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with police investigators.
 
However, it is still unclear what drove the woman to run across the lanes or if speed or DUI led to the crash. If anyone has more information on this case, please call the CHP.
