Uvaldo Carrera-Moreno Dead, Meliton Carrera Arrested, Francisco Trujillo Injured in Vernalis DUI Accident

 
VERNALIS, CA (October 18, 2022) — 48-year-old Uvaldo Carrera-Moreno of Santa Ana died in a DUI crash on 5 Freeway on Sunday, October 16.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, three men in a Toyota moved north in the fast lane at about 75 mph on the 5 Freeway. Then for undetermined reasons, the driver swerved to the left shortly before 10:00 p.m.
 
The Toyota moved into the dirt median and the driver, 25-year-old Meliton Carrera, lost control of it and the vehicle rolled over. The impact ejected the right rear passenger. He died at the scene. Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified him as Carrera-Moreno.
 
Carrera and the right front seat passenger, 34-year-old Francisco Trujillo of Concord, suffered minor injuries. Both declined to be rushed to the hospital
 
After being medically cleared, officers arrested Carrera on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and DUI. He remained in custody Monday afternoon. Officials set his bail at $125,000.
