Small Plane Headed for Hawaii Crashes into Pacific Ocean Off Coast Half Moon Bay Killing 2 Pilots

 
HALF MOON BAY, CA (May 23, 2023) – Two pilots were killed when a small plane headed for Hawaii crashed into the Pacific Ocean on Saturday afternoon.
 
The FAA said the flight was from Santa Rosa to Honolulu. The plane, a Viking Air DHC-6-400 Twin Otter, crashed around 2:15 p.m. shortly after takeoff, about 40 miles off the coast of Half Moon Bay.
 
The pilot and co-pilot were found unresponsive and strapped in their seats in the upside-down plane. Both were killed in the crash. They were the only people on board the plane.
 
The Coast Guard said they had received a report of a plane experiencing mechanical failure.
 
Crews are working to recover the plane. The National Transportation Safety Board will continue to investigate what happened.
