Two Men Hospitalized in Bicycle Accident at Market Street and Fifth Street [San Francisco, CA]

Bicyclist and Scooter Rider Collide on Market Street in San Francisco

 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (July 22, 2023) – Two men were hospitalized in a bicycle accident at Market Street and Fifth Street in San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 4:40 p.m. on July 19. According to the California Highway Patrol, a bicyclist and a scooter rider collided at the intersection for unknown reasons.
 
Witnesses said the riders’ heads smashed together when the crash occurred. Both were thrown to the pavement and pools of blood remained in the street and curb, where the two landed.
 
Responding paramedics rushed both men to a hospital with bandages on their faces.
 
The bicyclist, who appeared seriously injured and had blood all over his shirt and face, was the less wounded of the two and was able to answer basic questions and sit up.

The other man, who was riding the scooter, was drifting in and out of consciousness as paramedics applied a bandage around his head.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.

When riding a bicycle, make sure you wear cycling gear and equipment that will make you more visible. If there is a bike lane, ride in that lane. When riding a scooter, always wear a helmet.
