Big Rig Involved in Fatal Accident on 8 Freeway in Pine Valley

 
PINE VALLEY, CA (May 15, 2021) – Officers confirmed that two people died in a big rig accident on 8 Freeway on May 12.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened between Sunrise Highway and Buckman Springs around 7:50 PM.
 
Based on a report, the truck was headed east on the highway at the time of the crash. Due to unknown reasons, it traveled across the center divider and hit a bridge rail on the westbound side of the freeway. Then, it traveled down a dirt embankment and caught fire. In addition, the fire also sparked a small vegetation blaze in the area.
 
As a result, two people died in the wreckage. Officials did not yet release their names pending kin notification.
 
Cal Fire San Diego was able to quickly contain the flames. However, the damage to the bridge closed the area for about three hours. At this point, this accident on 8 Freeway is still under investigation. In addition, officers ask anyone with information to call the CHP’s El Cajon-area office at (619) 401-2000.
