Two Sustained Injuries after Fiery Accident on 15 Freeway near Brake Check Area

PHELAN, CA (February 2, 2022) — Two people were injured in a fiery crash on 15 Freeway near Brake Check Area on Sunday, January 9.

According to California Highway Patrol, a black Dodge Challenger and a big rig tractor-trailer were involved in the crash that occurred around 10:10 p.m.

CHP reports said the Dodge Challenger may have been racing/speeding before it lost control. It spun off the freeway and crashed into the back of a parked rig.

The impact of the collision caused the Dodge to catch fire. Both people inside it were able to get out with help of good Samaritans.

Firefighters gave treatment to the two injured. Rescue crews asked one helicopter to airlift one person with a head injury and a broken leg. A Mercy Air #22 helicopter airlifted the injured from the crash scene to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The second person had minor injuries.

The big rig driver did not sustain any injuries. He was able to detach the trailer before it caught fire. The trailer had been fully loaded with poultry.

Officials believe speeding played a factor in the crash.

CHP Inland Office continue to investigate the incident.
