Tony Charles III Killed in DUI Accident on 5 Freeway [Lebec, CA]

Police Arrest Deleah Johnson for DUI after Crash in Lebec Killing One of Her Passengers

 
LEBEC, CA (August 30, 2022) – Tony Ray Charles III died in a DUI crash in Lebec on Saturday evening, August 27.
 
The crash happened around 7:11 p.m. on 5 Freeway just north of Lebec Service Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Deleah Johnson was driving a 2004 Toyota Solara with two passengers when the car crashed and rolled over.
 
Charles, who was one of the passengers, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 20-year-old Bakersfield resident.
 
The other passenger, 18-year-old Erica Hayden of Bakersfield, was injured.
 
Johnson was also injured and taken to Kern Medical. Police later arrested her on suspicion of felony DUI. Additional charges are pending.
