Head-On Crash on Highway 4 in Calaveras County Kills Three People

 
CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA (August 14, 2023) – Three people were killed in a head-on accident on Highway 4 in Calaveras County Friday evening on August 11.
 
The fatal accident happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. just west of Vista Point and Copperopolis. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old San Mateo man was driving a 2020 Honda when he drifted into the oncoming westbound traffic lane. He then collided head-on with a 2020 Lexus, driven by 37-year-old Quang Tran of San Jose.
 
As a result, the man driving the Honda and his two passengers, a 62-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman, both from San Francisco, all died at the scene.
 
Tran suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. His five passengers, ranging in age from two to 72, suffered moderate to major injuries. All were taken to Doctors Medical Center.
 
CHP officials said DUI is not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
