Wrong-Way Driver Dies after Crashing Head-On into Three Cars in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (June 11, 2023)Thomas Harris was killed in a wrong-way head-on crash in Long Beach Thursday evening on June 8.
 
The crash happened around 7:00 p.m. in the 2300 block of Pacific Coast Highway at Juniper Avenue. According to the Long Beach Fire Department, Harris was driving a 2024 Lexus NX250 SUV along the westbound lanes of the highway when he entered into the eastbound lanes. While driving the wrong way, he collided head-on with a green Dodge Challenger. He then continued west and slammed head-on into a Toyota RAV4 and a Jeep Compass.
 
The impact caused the Lexus to overturn partially on its roof. The Challenger ended up on the sidewalk.
 
Harris, a 56-year-old Long Beach resident, died at the scene.
 
Six other people were injured and freed from the wreckage by firefighters using mechanical tools. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
 
Speed, drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
