Teen Killed after Car Slams Into Pole on Union Avenue in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 10, 2022) — A teen died after a car crashed into a power pole on Union Avenue near McKee Road on Thursday.
 
According to reports, California Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash around 6:07 a.m. Upon arriving, officers found a 2009 Nissan that had slammed into a power pole just south of McKee Road.
 
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Nissan was driving at a high rate of speed and lost control before hitting the pole.
 
Arriving officers found the vehicle at a stop on a dirt shoulder of South Union Avenue.
 
The 18-year-old driver – who was not wearing a seatbelt – suffered fatal injuries.
 
An 18-year-old passenger sustained moderate injuries. Upon arriving, paramedics brought the surviving occupant to Kern Medical for treatment.
 
At this time, CHP officers have not determined if alcohol played a factor. However, we will update this report with more information.
