Steven Mon, Katha Penny Injured in Fatal Multi-Car Accident on Highway 154 [Santa Ynez, CA]

Katha Penny and Steven Mon Hospitalized in Deadly Multi-Car Crash in Santa Ynez

 
SANTA YNEZ, CA (October 10, 2022) — Several people were injured in a fatal multi-car accident on Highway 154 near Meadowvale Road on Sunday.
 
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the fatal three-vehicle crash happened around 10:25 a.m. To avoid striking stopped traffic ahead, a 40-year-old Santa Maria man heading eastbound in a Ford C-Max swerved into the opposing lane.
 
Subsequently, his compact vehicle crashed into a westbound BMW x5, driven by 60-year-old Katha Penny. While Penny’s car overturned, the C-Max continued east and slammed into a Toyota Highlander, driven by 52-year-old Steven Mon of Anaheim.
 
As a result of the crash, the unidentified driver of the Ford C-Max died at the scene. Authorities have withheld his name pending notification of family members.
 
Mon and two of his passengers sustained moderate injuries and received care at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
 
Penny reported pain but declined hospital care.
 
At this time, authorities have not confirmed the liabilities. However, they have ruled out impairment as an explanation for the crash. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP’s Buellton office.
