Bicyclist Stephen Wright Dies after Colliding with Flatbed Tow Truck in Simi Valley

 
SIMI VALLEY, CA (May 2, 2022) – Stephen Wright was killed in a bicycle accident in Simi Valley on Wednesday afternoon, April 27.
 
The fatal accident happened around 12:15 p.m. on Sycamore Drive just south of Los Angeles Avenue. According to the Simi Valley Police Department, Wright had been riding a 10-speed style road bike northbound on Sycamore. He was wearing a helmet.
 
At the same time, the driver of a commercial flatbed tow truc was also driving northbound on Sycamore. The driver turned right when they struck the bicyclist.
 
As a result, Wright suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 69-year-old Simi Valley resident.
 
The driver of the truck stopped and cooperated with investigators. Police do not suspect he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
 
There is a painted bike lane on northbound Sycamore, but nothing to protect riders from vehicles turning onto Los Angeles, or into the parking lots below it.
