Man Dies after Struck by Motorist on Highway 1 while Standing Next to Disabled SUV

 
VENTURA COUNTY, CA (May 2, 2022) – Marcelo Santos died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 1 in Ventura County on Friday morning.
 
The accident happened around 7:00 a.m. on April 29 just north of Wood Road south of Hueneme Road near Naval Base Ventura County of Point Mugu. According to the California Highway Patrol, Santos was standing next to a disabled 2000 Ford Explorer SUV parked on the right northbound shoulder. A 51-year-old Inglewood man was a passenger in the Ford.
 
A 33-year-old Port Hueneme man was driving northbound on the highway in a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas SUV. For reasons still under investigation, he veered toward the shoulder, hitting Santos and the Explorer.
 
As a result, Santos suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 34-year-old Gardena resident.
 
The passenger in the Ford and the driver of the Volkswagen were not injured, officials said.
 
It is still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. No arrests were reported. This fatality remains under investigation.
