Teen Spencer Taylor Dies in Pedestrian-Train Accident in Davis

DAVIS, CA (September 23, 2021) — The authorities have identified the pedestrian fatally struck by a train near Davis as 18-year-old Spencer Taylor of Utah.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Wednesday morning at around 5:30 a.m. An initial investigation revealed that Amtrak Train 523 was westbound from Sacramento to San Jose when a pedestrian allegedly trespassed on the tracks.

The train was not able to stop in time and hit the pedestrian, later identified as Taylor, on the railroad tracks near the intersection of County Roads 105 and 32A.

Additionally, the CHP reported there was a vehicle found near the scene. However, it was not clear whether it belonged to Taylor.

Following the crash, Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor service canceled their service and transferred passengers to another train.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Chief Deputy Coroner Gina Moya said that they ruled Taylor’s death as a suicide. However, the investigation of the Union Pacific Railroad police is ongoing.
