SUV Plows into Bus Stop on East Rosecrans Avenue in Compton Killing Sleeping Homeless Person

 
COMPTON, CA (July 28, 2023) – A sleeping homeless person was hit and killed by an SUV on East Rosecrans Avenue in Compton early Thursday morning on July 27.
 
The fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 2200 Block of East Rosecrans Avenue near North Harris Avenue. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was sleeping on a bus stop bench when the crash occurred.
 
The SUV was reportedly traveling eastbound on Rosecrans Avenue when it struck a tree, the bus stop, and a fire hydrant before coming to a stop a short distance down the road.
 
The victim, believed to be homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Deputies arrested the male driver of the SUV.
 
A female passenger in the SUV suffered major injuries.
 
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
