Shirley Juarez Dead, Miriam Estrada Arrested after Hit-and-Run Crash on North J Street and North K Street

 
LOMPOC, CA (May 26, 2022) — A woman identified as 50-year-old Shirley Cavazos Juarez, of Lompoc, died after a hit-and-run crash on Monday, May 23.
 
According to Lompoc police Lt. Chip Arias, at around 10:00 p.m. a woman drove a vehicle at a fast speed through the alley between the 300 and 400 blocks of North J Street and North K Streets.
 
The driver then lost control of the car near the intersection with West Laurel Avenue. After that, the vehicle hit a gas meter and a fence. It subsequently hit Juarez, who had just arrived home from her second job.
 
Emergency responders rushed Juarez to Lompoc Valley Medical Center, where medical personnel pronounced her dead.
 
The suspect fled the area but officers located her later, Arias stated. They identified her as 26-year-old Miriam Aidee Vela Estrada, who recently moved from Santa Maria to Lompoc.
 
Officers then arrested Estrada and took her into custody on suspicion of felony DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and felony hit-and-run.
 
The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation by the Lompoc police. However, they suspect alcohol is a factor.
