CHP Officer Suffered Injuries after Hit-and-Run Crash on 80 Freeway and Pinole Valley Road

 
PINOLE, CA (May 26, 2022) — A California Highway Patrol officer was hurt in a hit-and-run accident on 80 Freeway on Tuesday, May 24.
 
CHP said at around 1:00 a.m., the driver of a pickup truck veered into the fog line on westbound 80 Freeway just east of University Avenue. It then struck the patrol vehicle on the side of the road, resulting in an injured CHP officer.
 
The officer was assisting a disabled motorist when the incident happened.
 
The driver of the pickup then fled the scene. Officers tracked down and detained the suspect in the area of Pinole Valley Road and 80 Freeway.
 
Medics rushed the injured officer to Highland Hospital in Oakland with major injuries. CHP said they expect the injured officer to be okay.
