Several Hurt, Wrong-Way Multi-Car Crash on 80 Freeway in Fairfield

 
FAIRFIELD, CA (May 25, 2023) — Several people were injured in a wrong-way multi-car accident on the 80 Freeway near Abernathy Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wrong-way accident happened around 1:35 a.m. Monday. For an unknown reason, a driver entered eastbound in the westbound lanes and sideswiped four vehicles, injuring the occupants.
 
Authorities confirmed that all occupants of the involved vehicles suffered minor injuries. Fairfield Fire Department officials responded to the scene and extricated some of the patients from their respective cars.
 
Due to the crash, crews closed all westbound lanes of the 80 Freeway for about 20 minutes to facilitate the investigation.
 
Authorities did not identify the driver of the wrong-way Honda, whom authorities determined was impaired. Following an investigation, officers arrested the individual.
