Driver Scott St. Amand Dies in San Jose Crash on 280 Freeway

 
SAN JOSE, CA (March 16, 2022) – A man died in a multi-vehicle accident on 280 Freeway in San Jose, late Thursday evening.
 
Police identified the victim as 62-year-old Santa Clara resident Scott St. Amand, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
 
The accident happened around 11:17 p.m. on March 10 near Saratoga Avenue. CHP officials said St. Amand was driving in a red Honda and made an “unsafe” turn from northbound 280 Freeway onto the Saratoga Avenue off-ramp, police said.
 
St. Amand collided with the left rear of a Tesla, which ended up in the east shoulder of the off-ramp. The Honda then “traveled out of control,” overturning onto one of the middle lanes of 280 Freeway, police said.
 
His vehicle was then hit by a black Prius, silver Hyundai and a silver Nissan, according to CHP.
 
St. Amand’s did at the scene, according to emergency personnel at 11:31 p.m.
 
The accident blocked multiple lanes of the freeway. However, no other people were transported. Authorities said they do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
