Sammie Franks Airlifted after DUI Crash on Highway 12 in Valley Springs

 
VALLEY SPRINGS, CA (April 21, 2021) – Emergency crews transported motorist Sammie Franks to the hospital following a DUI crash on Highway 12 on April 16.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at the intersection of Burson Road at approximately 5:20 PM.
 
Based on a report, Sammie Franks of Angels Camp was driving a tow truck on the highway at the time of the crash. At the same time, 34-year-old Gabriel Fernandez of Modesto turned his Nissan Murano from Burson Road onto the highway into the path of the truck. Subsequently, the tow truck hit a support structure for the overhang at the Burson Market, causing it to collapse. The crash also involved a Chevrolet pickup truck under the overhang and a Toyota Tundra in the parking lot.
 
As a result, Franks suffered major injuries in the incident. Emergency crews airlifted him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. In addition, Fernandez suffered moderate injuries. Crews transported him to Memorial Medical Center.
 
Later on, officers arrested Fernandez for DUI.
