Suspected Drunk Driver Pursued by Brentwood Police Dies in Crash on Sand Creek Road
BRENTWOOD, CA (June 4, 2023) – Ryan Alphonso Young was killed in a DUI police chase in Brentwood Thursday evening on June 1.
Around 7:06 p.m., a Brentwood officer was patrolling the area of Sand Creek Road and O’Hara Avenue when he saw a Chrysler 300 that did not stop for a red light. The officer conducted a traffic stop, but the driver who showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol drove away. The officer then began a pursuit.
During the pursuit, the car left the roadway a few blocks away, striking the north curb of Sand Creek Road and came to rest on Rosalinda Court.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified Young as the 49-year-old Brentwood driver of the Chrysler. He was killed in the crash.
Because the pursuit ended in a death, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office started an investigation per county protocol.
The officer, who has not been identified, is on administrative leave.
Brentwood police urged witnesses to call them at 925-809-7911.
We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ryan Young.
