2 San Diego Police Officers among 3 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash in San Ysidro
SAN YSIDRO, CA (June 6, 2021) – Detectives Ryan Park and Jamie Huntley-Park were among three people who died in a wrong-way crash in San Ysidro Friday morning.
The fatal crash happened around 10:25 a.m. on June 4, on 5 Freeway near Highway 905. According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Honda Civic was speeding northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway when it collided head-on with a blue Ford Fusion sedan. The Ford is owned by the city of San Diego.
As a result, both the 32-year-old detective and his 33-year-old wife died at the scene.
The Civic burst into flames from the impact and the female driver was also killed.
Park was a homicide detective, and Huntley-Park was assigned to the Southern Division. They had the day off, but Ryan was on call, according to police.
The two met in the police academy in April of 2012 and were coincidentally promoted to the rank of detective together. They got married in February 2016.
At this time, police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol was a factor.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved loved ones of Ryan Park and Jamie Huntley-Park.
