Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Van on Channel Islands Boulevard in Oxnard

 
OXNARD, CA (March 2, 2021) – Authorities on Friday released the identity of an Oxnard man who died in a bicycle accident in Oxnard.
 
The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 39-year-old Rojelio Minjarez of Oxnard.
 
The accident happened just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday, February 25, on Channel Islands Boulevard west of J Street.
 
Oxnard police said Minjarez was riding his bicycle when a 2018 Ford Transit van struck him. As a result, he suffered multiple blunt force head injuries and died at the scene.
 
The driver of the van, a 51-year-old Oxnard man, remained on scene and cooperated with police.
 
Traffic investigators determined that the van was traveling west on Channel Islands when it hit the bicyclist.
 
It is unclear if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation.
