Roberto Garcia Jr. Killed, Passenger Injured in Solvang Rollover Crash

 
SOLVANG, CA (September 14, 2022) — A Solvang man identified as 19-year-old Roberto Garcia Jr. died in a rollover crash on September 12.
 
According to Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, they received reports of a rollover crash at about 10:20 p.m. on Monday. Firefighters and other emergency personnel rushed to the scene at Ballard Canyon Road near Roble Blanco Road.
 
When officers arrived at the area, they found a BMW M3 sedan on its roof, under a tree, and around 20 feet down an embankment. Its occupants were trapped in the wreckage and firefighters extricated them.
 
Upon investigation, California Highway Patrol determined the vehicle moved northbound on Ballard Canyon. Then it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
 
Garcia Jr. who was the one behind the wheel suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed him to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital where he died.
 
Three passengers sustained moderate to major injuries. Officials identified them as 18-year-old Georgia Jensen, of Buellton, 18-year-old Emely Suarez, of Solvang, and 19-year-old Viviana Figueroa, of Solvang. Medics brought them to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
 
The CHP said intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
