Scooter Rider Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Downtown San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 3, 2023) – Richie Barragon was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in downtown San Diego Thursday evening on September 28.
 
The crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. on 5th Avenue near the 500 block of Ash Street. According to the San Diego Police Department, the 22-year-old victim was riding a motorized scooter southbound in the bike path of 5th Avenue when a vehicle traveling west on Ash Street struck him.
 
After the crash, the vehicle did not stop.
 
Barragon suffered an open skull fracture and brain bleed. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital in critical condition.
 
Police described the involved vehicle as an older model of a light blue or light green Toyota Camry with a cracked windshield from the crash.
