Woman Killed, Sierra Miguel Arrested in Head-On Crash on Highway 99 [Butte County, CA]

Head-On Crash on Highway 99 in Butte County Kills 1 and Injures 2

 
BUTTE COUNTY, CA (October 3, 2023) – A woman died and Sierra Miguel was arrested after a head-on crash in Butte County Saturday morning on September 30.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:01 a.m. on Highway 99, just north of Richvale Highway. According to the California Highway Patrol, Miguel was driving an SUV northbound on the highway when she tried to pass a truck and big rig by entering the oncoming lane. However, she ended up colliding head-on with a blue Honda Accord, driven by the victim.
 
As a result, the woman driving the Accord died at the scene.
 
Miguel, a 31-year-old Arcata resident, suffered major injuries. She was later arrested for vehicular manslaughter.
 
A baby in the back of Miguel’s car that was restrained in a car seat was sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Animal control was also on scene looking for two pit bulls that were thrown from one of the cars during the crash.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
