Man Pushing Shopping Cart Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Highway 119 in Taft

 
TAFT, CA (January 30, 2023) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 119 in Taft Friday evening on January 27.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:35 p.m. at East Kern Street. According to the Taft Police Department, the male pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart across Highway 119 near a marked crosswalk when a vehicle struck him.
 
After striking the victim, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
 
Officers attempted first aid, but the pedestrian died at the scene. The Kern County Coroner only identified him as a 53-year-old Taft resident.
 
Police described the suspect vehicle as a dark, possibly black sedan and may have significant front-end damage. They urged anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 661-763-3101.
