Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on 75th Avenue in East Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (April 9, 2024) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash at 75th Avenue and San Leandro Street in East Oakland early Monday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 12:48 a.m. on April 8. According to the Oakland Police Department, the pedestrian appeared to have been struck by a vehicle at the intersection.
 
After striking the victim, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid.
 
Arriving officers found the male victim unresponsive with major injuries, including a severed leg.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
It is unknown if speed or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
