Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Suspect Coreyraye Smith after Fatally Striking Pedestrian in Fontana
FONTANA, CA (August 4, 2022) – A pedestrian died and police arrested Coreyraye Smith after a hit-and-run crash in Fontana Wednesday morning on August 3.
The fatal crash happened around 5:35 a.m. on Foothill Boulevard, just west of Sultana Avenue. According to the Fontana Police Department, the pedestrian was walking eastbound in the two-way left turn lane of Foothill when a white pickup truck traveling westbound on Foothill struck him.
Smith was the driver of the pickup. He did not did not stop after the crash, leaving the pedestrian with severe injuries.
First responders rushed the pedestrian to a local hospital, where the victim later died.
Officers were able to locate the the suspect’s address in Rialto. They found the suspect vehicle and Smith at this residence.
Smith was arrested on a charge of felony hit-and-run.
Foothill Boulevard between Beech and Almeria avenues was shut down for several hours during the investigation.
