Pedestrian Fatally Struck by DUI Hit-and-Run Driver on Woodland Avenue, Braxton Howze Arrested

 
MODESTO, CA (April 25, 2021) – A pedestrian died and Braxton Howze was arrested after DUI hit-and-run crash Thursday evening in Modesto.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:16 p.m. on Woodland Avenue west of Graphics Drive. According to Modesto Police Department, the 22-year-old Modesto resident was driving a Ford Ranger when he drifted out of his lane.
 
The Ford then struck the pedestrian and a parked car.
 
First responders rushed the pedestrian to a local hospital, where the victim later died.
 
Meanwhile, Braxton walked away from the scene but was quickly found and apprehended. Police determined that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
 
Braxton was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing bodily injury, hit and run and driving on a suspended license.
 
An investigation into this fatal incident is ongoing.
