Fatal Fiery Head-On Accident on Reclamation Road Involves Semi Truck Hauling Ammonia

 
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (April 25, 2021) – A man died in a fiery head-on crash on Reclamation Road in the Yuba-Sutter area Thursday morning, April 22.
 
The crash happened around 6:00 a.m. north of Tudor Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger without headlights on Reclamation Road. At the same time, a 2008 Peterbilt truck tractor combination was traveling northbound down on Reclamation Road behind a slower moving Dodge Ram 1500 that was towing a boat.
 
The big rig tried to pass the slower moving pickup and collided head-on with the Ford. The impact caused the big rig to flip over onto its side causing both vehicles to explode into flames.
 
As a result, the driver of the Ford died at the scene. The other two drivers were uninjured.
 
The big rig was hauling 20 tons of anhydrous ammonia, and though Yuba-Sutter Hazmat team is still on site, the trailer is intact and the ammonia did not leak.

The fatal crash is still under investigation.
