Police Arrest Suspected Drunk Driver after Striking Pedestrian on Venice Boardwalk

 
VENICE, CA (September 29, 2023) – A pedestrian was injured and Israel DeAvila was arrested in a DUI crash in Venice Monday morning on September 25.
 
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 33-year-old suspect was caught on video drinking a Modelo beer while driving a gray Hyundai Elantra. He was heading down the Venice Boardwalk before he struck the pedestrian at Rose Avenue.
 
Paramedics immediately responded and gave aid to the pedestrian who was not seriously hurt.
 
Police stopped the suspect and opened the driver’s side door of his car. DeAvila refused to get out of the car, but officers eventually got him out and took him into custody.
 
Deavila is facing several charges but could only confirm Assault with a Deadly Weapon on Thursday.

According to LAPD, DeAvila did not provide a city of residence and is listed as a transient in their system. He is currently in jail with $120,000 in bail.

An investigation is ongoing.
