Passenger Dead in Multi-Car Crash on 5 Freeway in Sacramento

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (January 30, 2023) — A passenger died in a multi-car accident on the 5 Freeway near J Street Thursday night.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-vehicle collision happened around 9:30 p.m. For unknown reasons, a car broke down in the center divider of the southbound freeway.
 
Soon after, a AAA tow truck arrived and pulled into the No. 1 lane before a Lexus pulled up and stopped behind the tow truck. Not long after, a 24-year-old Stockton man driving a Toyota rear-ended the Lexus, and the Toyota became disabled. Moments later, a 52-year-old man from Clarksburg in a Ford F-150 swerved to avoid the Toyota by pulling into the center divider, but a 29-year-old man driving a Hyundai rear-ended the Toyota. As a result of the impact, the Toyota spun sideways and crashed into the Ford F-150.
 
A 67-year-old man from Stockton, the Toyota’s front seat passenger, died in the crash. Arriving firefighters found a right rear passenger in the Toyota trapped inside the wreckage, as well.
 
All in all, three people suffered injuries and one person died. At this time, authorities plan to investigate this crash from all angles. If anyone has more information, call please call the CHP.
