Suspected Drunk Driver Causes Deadly Crash on 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road

 
ACTON, CA (June 22, 2023) – A passenger died and Joshua Lawson was arrested after a DUI crash in Acton Monday evening on June 19.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:40 p.m. on 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 36-year-old suspect from Lancaster was driving a 2022 Honda Civic northbound in the center median of the freeway.
 
As Lawson attempted to pass slower traffic by driving in the center median at an unsafe speed, he came upon a disabled 2006 Honda Accord with three occupants stopped in the center median.
 
The front of Lawson’s Civic crashed into the rear of the Accord.
 
As a result, the rear passenger of the Accord suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only identified him as a Lancaster resident in his 60s.
 
Police arrested Lawson on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
