Boaters Rescue 2 People after Plane Crashes at Rubicon Bay in Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, CA (July 5, 2023) – One person was seriously injured in a plane crash at Rubicon Bay in Lake Tahoe Saturday afternoon on July 1.

According to the El Dorado County Sherriff’s Office, they responded to calls at 10:18 a.m. when a fixed-wing airplane crashed into the water on the western side of South Lake Tahoe. There were two passengers on the plane and both were rescued by people operating boats in the area.

Both passengers survived in the crash, but one of them suffered a serious head injury.

Flight tracking data appeared to show the Piper single-engine plane departed from the Truckee Tahoe Airport at 9:14 a.m. before picking up speed and losing altitude.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a single-engine Piper PA-28. It has been fully submerged in the water and its GPS coordinates were marked for potential hazmat purposes, the sheriff’s office said.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.

Avoid unexpected plane crashes by getting the proper maintenance done on the plane. Check the weather forecast at departing and arriving airports. Manage your risks by staying alert and practicing all safety guidelines.
