Speeding Driver Dies after Running Through Red Light and Crashing into Two Other Cars on North Livermore Avenue
LIVERMORE, CA (May 8, 2023) – One person died in a three-car accident on North Livermore at 580 Freeway Saturday evening.
The fatal accident happened just after 8:45 p.m. on May 6. According to the California Highway Patrol, officers spotted three vehicles speeding southbound on North Livermore Avenue, but they were unable to catch up to those vehicles and lost sight of them.
An initial investigation revealed a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro were traveling in the left-turn lane from North Livermore Avenue and proceeded into the intersection after the light turned green.
As the two cars continued toward the freeway, a 2006 Acura RL traveling southbound on North Livermore Avenue at a high rate of speed ran the red light and struck both cars. The Acura then continued through the intersection and struck a traffic pole.
The pole entered the driver compartment of the Acura and impacted the driver causing them fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, the occupants of the Camaro and Elantra were examined at the scene.
This fatal crash is still under investigation.
We send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
