Driver Dies after Colliding with Semi Truck on Monterey Road in Gilroy

 
GILROY, CA (March 21, 2022) – One person died in a semi truck accident at Monterey Road and Travel Park Circle in Gilroy on Monday, March 14.
 
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. According to the Gilroy Police Department, a Ford Focus collided with the semi-truck.
 
As a result, the male driver of the Focus died at the scene. The Santa Clara County Coroner withheld his identity pending notification of next of kin.
 
The crash also ruptured the fuel tank of the semi truck, and a large amount of diesel fuel flooded the roadway, police said. The roadway was closed until 4:30 a.m. for the investigation, hazardous materials cleanup and removal of vehicles.
 
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Police asked anyone with further information to contact Officer Rene Arbizu at 408-846-0541.
