Fatal Semi-Truck Accident on Highway 86 in Indio

 
INDIO, CA (May 14, 2021) – Two people were killed and two others were injured Thursday when a big rig collided with a vehicle on Highway 86 near Coachella.
 
The accident happened around 10:50 a.m. on May 13, south of Avenue 50. According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Dodge collided with the semi truck for unknown reasons.
 
Firefighters freed at least one person from the wreckage. Two people died at the scene.
 
Two others were transported to an area hospital with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
 
Southbound Highway 86 closed at 10 Freeway for the investigation and wreckage removal, the CHP reported. Imperial Irrigation District crews were summoned to the scene to fix a damaged power pole.
 
The cause of the crash was under investigation. At this time, there is no information available regarding the victims nor if they were in the big rig or vehicle.
