Early Morning Head-On Accident on Highway 101 Bridge near Willits Kills Motorcyclist

 
WILLITS, CA (May 14, 2021) – A motorcyclist died in a head-on accident on Highway 101 bridge near the north end of Willits early Thursday morning.
 
The accident happened shortly before 3:00 a.m. on May 13. According to the California Highway Patrol, a motorcycle and two other vehicles were involved. The motorcyclist was ejected off the highway bridge and the two vehicles caught fire.
 
As a result, the motorcyclist died at the scene. The identity of the deceased victim was not immediately available.
 
Paramedics airlifted another person to a hospital in critical condition.
 
After the crash, traffic was detoured through Willits until around 7:00 a.m.
 
The bridge carries the two lanes of Highway 101 over the connector from Willits’ Main Street. There is no median or center barrier on that stretch of highway. The speed limit is 65 mph.
 
It is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
