Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 101 near East Washington Street

 
PETALUMA, CA (April 11, 2022) — One person died in a pedestrian crash on Highway 101 in Petaluma on Friday, April 8.
 
The incident happened at around 11:51 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 just north of East Washington Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, several vehicles struck a male pedestrian crossing the roadway.
 
Officials issued a Sig-alert at 12:09 p.m. and closed all southbound lanes. They also closed the onramps to southbound Highway 101 at Petaluma Boulevard North and Old Redwood Highway.
 
According to Petaluma police, the closures led to heavy traffic congestion and backups. It also impacted traffic flow on surface streets in Petaluma.
 
Authorities advised drivers to avoid southbound Highway 101 from Old Redwood Highway to Washington Street until further notice.
 
CHP reported all lanes reopened just after 2 p.m.
