Early Morning Fiery Accident on Union Avenue in Bakersfield Ends in Fatality

BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 28, 2021) – One person was killed in a fiery car accident on Union Avenue at Ming Avenue early Saturday morning.
 
The accident happened around 1:16 a.m. on September 25, near Southgate. According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Kia was traveling at a high rate of speed when a tow truck carrying a commercial vehicle turned into its path.
 
The driver of the Kia swerved to avoid the truck but slammed into the pole. The car then burst into flames.
 
A good Samaritan attempted to extinguish the fire before first responders arrived. Another performed CPR on the driver, but the victim died at the scene.
 
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
 
CHP officials asked anyone with information about the crash to call them at 661-396-6600.
