One Killed in Fiery Accident near Shields Avenue and Academy Avenue [Fresno, CA]

Fiery Crash Involving Semi and Pickup Truck on Shields Avenue in Fresno County Leaves 1 Dead

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (June 8, 2023) – One person died in a fiery accident near Shields Avenue and Academy Avenue in Fresno County on Wednesday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened just before 11:00 a.m. on June 7. According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi truck with a trailer full of gravel was traveling north on Academy and was approaching the Shields intersection when a Ford Ranger pickup truck failed to stop at the stop sign.
 
The Ford truck collided with the right axle of the trailer and was dragged 200 feet on Academy.
 
The trailer overturned, and the Ford Ranger burst into flames.
 
As a result, the driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. They were not yet identified.
 
The semi truck driver was unharmed.
 
Crews closed the northbound Academy Avenue for two hours while they worked on the wreckage.
 
Officers are waiting for toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in this crash.
