57-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by SUV on Highway 70 near Grover Lane

 
PALERMO, CA (June 9, 2023) – Johnny Byrd was killed in a pedestrian accident in Palermo late Tuesday evening on June 6.
 
The fatal accident happened just before 11:30 p.m. on Highway 70 near Grover Lane. According to the CHP, 34-year-old Phanat Kue of Oroville was driving his 2019 Honda CRV northbound on the highway. At the same time, Byrd was walking eastbound across the northbound lanes.
 
Kue saw Byrd in his lane and tried to avoid hitting him, but the front end of his Honda struck him.
 
As a result, Byrd suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 57-year-old Oroville resident, according to the Butte County Coroner’s Office.
 
This fatality is still under investigation.
