Afternoon Two-Car Crash on Highway 44 in Palo Cedro Kills 1 and Injures 2 Others

 
PALO CEDRO, CA (December 30, 2022) – One person was killed in a two-car accident on Highway 44 near the Palo Cedro area of Shasta County Wednesday afternoon.
 
The fatal accident happened around 2:10 p.m. on December 28, at Silver Bridge Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2000 Toyota Solara was traveling north on Silver Bridge Road when it pulled out into the intersection directly in front of a 2011 Jeep Cherokee that was heading east. The Jeep then slammed into the left side of the Solara.
 
As a result, the unidentified driver of the Solara suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. They were the only occupant in the car.
 
Two people in the Jeep, 71-year-old Arthur John Howatt and 66-year-old Lori Nadine Howatt, both of Shingletown, had moderate injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
 
This fatality is still under investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor.
