Motorcyclist Dies in Citrus Heights Crash on Birdcage Street

 
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (July 3, 2021) – Oleg Smyk was killed in a head-on accident Monday evening on Birdcage Street in Citrus Heights.
 
The accident happened around 8:05 p.m. on June 21, just between Sun Hill Drive and Chancery Court. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 34-year-old victim from Citrus Heights was riding his motorcycle northbound when a southbound car allegedly turned in front of him.
 
Smyk swerved off the road to avoid the car, causing him to crash head-on into a tree. He suffered severe injuries.
 
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced Smyk dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the southbound driver stayed at the site and cooperated with authorities.
 
CHP officials closed down a portion of Birdcage Street while they investigated the accident.
 
A GoFundMe page was set up to pay for Smyk’s memorial service and help with upcoming bills.
