Officer Struck, Injured by Driver on 5 Freeway in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 21, 2022) — An officer was hit and injured by a car on the 5 Freeway at Highway 76 on Friday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian accident happened around 6:00 a.m. For unknown reasons, a southbound semi-truck, driven by a 47-year-old Granada Hills resident, lost two of its tires.
 
Shortly after, a female officer pulled over in an attempt to remove the tires from the road. However, an oncoming BMW traveling in the No. 4 lane struck the officer.
 
As a result, the San Diego Police Officer suffered minor injuries in the crash. However, reports did not indicate whether officers cited or arrested the 22-year-old man driving the BMW.
 
At this time, police do not suspect alcohol to have played a role in the accident, but if anyone has seen this crash, please call the CHP Oceanside office at 760-643-3400.
