Officer Chad Swanson Killed in Multi-Car Crash on 405 Freeway near Del Amo Boulevard

 
CARSON, CA (October 5, 2023) — Officer Chad Swanson died in a motorcycle accident on the 405 Freeway near Del Amo Boulevard Wednesday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a driver, possibly moving at a high rate of speed, performed an unsafe lane change. Subsequently, that vehicle struck another car, which in turn struck Manhattan Beach Officer Swanson.
 
In total, at least four vehicles collided.
 
The 35-year-old, on his way to work, was thrown from his motorcycle upon impact.
 
Shortly after, paramedics and police officers responded and ushered him to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Meanwhile, paramedics brought at least one other person to a hospital with minor injuries.
 
Despite receiving life-saving efforts, Officer Swanson passed away from his injuries. Swanson, who worked for the department for over 13 years, is survived by his wife, three sons and parents.
 
Following the crash, all involved occupants stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP.
