Two-Vehicle Accident in Gustine Kills Man, 66, and 7-Year-Old Granddaughter
GUSTINE, CA (February 7, 2021) – A man and his granddaughter died Sunday after a two-vehicle accident in Gustine.
The accident happened around 1:35 p.m. on February 7, in the area of Hunt Road and Gun Club Road.
Deputies said 66-year-old Norman Figueroa was riding his motorcycle with his granddaughter, 7-year-old Kaylee Figueroa. They were traveling northbound on Hunt Road when for unknown reasons, Figueroa attempted to make a U-turn at Gun Club Road. He failed to yield the right of way to a 2007 Acura TL, driven by 39-year-old Yolanda Vasquez.
The front left corner of the Acura collided with the motorcycle, ejecting the two riders.
Authorities said both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the collision, but the child’s helmet came off as she was ejected.
As a result of the collision, Figueroa died at the scene.
Paramedics rushed the child Kaylee to Los Banos Memorial Hospital with major injuries. They later transported her to Valley Children’s Hospital, where the girl died Sunday night.
Meanwhile, Vasquez was transported to Mercy Hospital in Merced with major injuries.
Further investigation is underway.
We offer our deepest condolences to the loved ones of Norman Figueroa and Kaylee Figueroa.
